class 6 maths ch 1

So guys today I will discus class 6th ncert maths ch-1

So the name of our chapter is"Knowing our numbers"

So if I talk about the learning sequence of this chapter

1.Comparison of numbers

2.Ordering of numbers

3.Making of numbers using digits

4.Effect of shifting of digits on number

5.Larger numbers

 6.Roman numerals

7.Word problems

8.Estimation of numbers

(i) Estimating sum of differences

(ii) Estimating product

(iii) Estimating quotient

So , now we will start with our "comparison of numbers"

In everyday life, we always come across numbers and we often have to compare them and make a decision.

It would be depending on two things :

(i) Number of digits

(ii) Place value of digits

Let us observe how we can compare numbers.

1.1.1 When Number Of Digits Are Different

Working Rules👇

Step 1 : Count the total number of digits in each number.

Step 2 : The number having  more number of digits is greater one.

Step 3 : The number having less number of digits is smaller one.

Example 1 : Which one is greater,234 or 3234?

Solution :

Step 1 : Number of digits in 234 is 3

Number of digits in 3234 is 4

Step 2 : Since the number of digits in the number 3234 is more than that in 234,

Therefore 3234 is greater than 234

Example 2 : Which one is smaller,546 or 5460?

Solution :

Step 1 : Number of digits in 546 are 3 and number of digits in 5460 are 4

Step 2 : Since the number of digits in the number 546 is less than that of 5460,

Therefore 546 is smaller than 5460.

Example 3 : Which one is the greatest,152 or 2150 or 78071?

(a)152

(b)2150

(c)15

(d)78071

Solution :

Step 1 : Number of digits In 152 is 3.

Number of digits in 2150 is 4.

Number of digits in 15 is 2.

Number of digits  in 78071 is 5.

Step 2 : Since the number of digits in the number 78071 is greatest of all.

So,the option (d) is correct, which is the required answer,i.e.answer (d)

1.1.2 When Numbers Of Digits Are Same

Working rules👇

Step 1 : Compare the leftmost digits in the two numbers.

Step 2 : The number with the greater leftmost digit is greater.

Step 3 : In case , the left most digits are the same, compare the next left digit in both the  numbers.

Step 4 : The number with the greater digit is greater.

Step 5 : In case these digits are also same, repeat step 3 and step 4 till you get the answer

Example 4 :  Which one is greater,4327 or 4348?

Solution :

4327                           4348

Leftmost number 4=4

Next number 3=3

Next number 2 is smaller than 4

Therefore , 4348 is greater than 4327.

Example 5 : Which one is smaller,1482 or 1471?

Solution :

1482.                      1471

Leftmost digits 1=1

Next digit 4=4

Next digit 7 is smaller than 8

Therefore 1471 is smaller

Example 6 : Which one is smallest, 3428 or 3425

Or 3275 or 3375?

(a) 3428

(b) 3425

(c) 3275

(d) 3375

Solution : First compare 3428 and 3425 to obtain which one is the smaller one, then compare the obtained smaller number and3275 to find which one is the smaller one, finally compare this smaller number and 3375 to find the required smaller number.

3428.                            3425

Leftmost digit 3=3

Next digit 4=4

Next digit 2=2

Next digit 5 is smaller than 8.

Therefore , 3425 is smaller

3425.                          3275

Leftmost digit 3=3

Next digit 2 is smaller than 4.

Therefore , 3275 is smaller.

3275.                         3375

Leftmost digit 3=3

Next digit 2 is smaller than 3.

Therefore, 3275 is the smallest number in 3428,3425,3275 and 3375.

So the option (c) is correct . Which is the required answer i.e. answer (c).
